No un-wanted guests are welcome here thanks! All fleas and paralysis ticks can be left at the front door! We recently teamed up with Bravecto to help you guys have a better understanding about these little nasty critters and why it is important to protect your pets!
When do fleas and paralysis ticks attack?
Fleas and ticks are more likely to come out during the warmer weather. However, please always ensure your pet is treated all year round as the little creepers can still be a hazard.
What are fleas and paralysis ticks?
Paralysis ticks are a parasite that attach to your pet and suck blood out. (EEK like vampires) As you can see below, there is a big difference in size between an unfed and a fed paralysis tick. While the paralysis tick sucks the blood out of the animal, it injects a toxin that affects the animal’s nervous system that can leave the animal with severe symptoms and sometimes even cause death.
Fleas are pesky little critters that make any animal scratch over and over again. The most common flea that impacts pets is the Ctenocephalides felis or the cat flea (might we mention that there are 2,500 species). A flea has four life stages (eek)!
Stage 1: Eggs
Did you know that female fleas can lay up to 50 eggs at a time and 5000 hundred in her lifetime?
Stage 2: Larva
The larva stage is when the eggs hatch between 5-10 days and feed off dead skin and the faeces of an adult flea.
Stage 3: Pupa
Essentially this stage is when a flea creates a cocoon, and it could stay there up
to several months at a time! A flea will stay there until it senses a new warm-blooded pet nearby.
Stage 4: Adults Once a flea has emerged from the cocoon it will need to feed on pet to continue its life cycle.

What are the signs that my pet might have a paralysis tick on them?
Symptoms of a paralysis tick can include an upset tummy, weakness in the back legs which can also lead to a complete paralysis eventually. Also keep an eye and ear out for heavy breathing, dry coughing and/or vomiting.
How do you remove a paralysis tick?
To remove the tick, you grab its head rather than its body. You can use tweezers or a special tick removing device, available at a pet store. To be safe, it is recommended that you take your pet to the vet immediately.
Gross fact:
Did you know?!?! A flea can start feeding on your animal’s blood within five minutes and they can feed for up to 2.5 hours! (GROSS) They also are known to lay 40/50 eggs PER DAY and it can take up to eight weeks toget rid of fleas in the home!!
What does the King of Dachshunds use?
We are so excited to try the new Bravecto Spot-on for Dogs treatment on Kingsley as it now provides long-lasting protection for 6 months against paralysis ticks and fleas. We love the idea of how easy the Spot-on treatment works. It is as simple as twist'n'use (the cap doesn’t come off).

If you also have any more questions for us please send us an email to kingkingsley15@hotmail.comWelcome back to our blog! We know it has been a while - This blog is coming right from Kingsley's Mama, Emma. Lately we have seen an influx in pages just looking more in-need of fame than ever to reach fame or followers. So we thought we would give you all some insights and helpful tips to helped us!
Now please do note, we do not claim that what we did is accurate and exactly what you should do, no one is a social media expert and every page is grown differently but what we can do is give you some helpful tips.
Firstly:
Let's talk about effort and time. Growing an Instagram account is NOT a piece of cake (Unless of cause you cheat - We will get to that later) It takes TIME and EFFORT to grow an organic social media profile. If you lack both of these then we suggest you just use it as a hobby and don't waste your time (Brutal, right?)
Engagement Groups:
If you are serious about growing an account being apart of 10 different engagement groups are not going to help you. Yes you may get more comments per post but what does that mean when you aren't reaching in likes or have the ratio of followers? Insights are so important and if you only have 1k followers but get 200+ comments per photos? That screams out red flags. Especially to businesses!
Do we think this is a way of growing an account Organically? No. We do not agree with this tactic. If you have 5-7 friends that want to keep up to date with each others posts then that is a different story but if you are serious about growing your account stay away from engagement groups.
Follow 4 Follow Trains:
This is one of the saddest things that we see and we get asked a lot about! NEVER EVER do a follow 4 follow train or play that game in general to build followers. At the end of the day each and everyone of those accounts will unfollow you and you will be pulling your hair out wondering why you can't grow an account. This tactic is also a very un-organic way to gain followers and to keep them loyal.
You wouldn't force your dog to love a dog it hates so why force someone to follow you? Let's keep it real and lets not get tied up in this tactic. If you want to gain REAL followers let them come to you, they will! We promise - just don't be desperate and go looking for them! Post amazing content that reaches out to your audience that is relevant and shows characteristics - people love that!
Unfollow Apps:
We have NEVER downloaded apps that allow us to see who unfollows us or who follows us (Okay, Maybe once for 1 day) but why waste your time and energy in worrying about those unfollows or if someone is unfollowing you back? Worry about those who WANT to follow you and WANT to stay around. We say delete that app - trash it right now and keep your sanity.
Buying Followers:
PLEASE JUST SIMPLY DO NOT DO THIS! We sadly know of LOTS of your favourite accounts that you may or may not follow who had bought lots of fake/ghost accounts 😭 Please do not get the urge to ruin your account! If you are thinking maybe you might by just 500 followers you might as well delete your account altogether! Lets talk insights again and ratios... you have 10k followers but get only 10 likes per photos? Doesn't seem right does it?
Lastly:
Now we understand this blog might be a little front forward and brutal but we are very sick of seeing accounts desperate for fame and following. The time will come if you are patient. We worked VERY hard to grow Kingsley's account to where it has gotten to and I can tell you we did NONE of the above (We researched into engagement groups and were apart of a HUGE one for a couple of weeks just to understand how and why accounts smaller than us were getting triple the comments, It was actually very heartbreaking and sad once we had figured out how).
The platform is meant to be fun and amazing! We understand how frustrating the new changes that Instagram has made are, but don't give up! Work around it organically.
If you would love to know anything more or have any specific questions for us please let us know and we will make our next blog a little lighter and give you insight on how we edit out photos - what time we post and how we choose content.
Lots of love Emma and King Kingsley xx

]]>What we are able to help you with is how to find the perfect pup for you! It took us a while to find an amazing mini long haired dachshund and infant we had put a deposit down on a Standard black and tan dachshund before finding Kingsley. Don't get me wrong the standard was beautiful however just not for us (in size). We searching high and low for an amazing breeder and the one place that you can find all the credit and papered breeders is on DogzOnline
We suggest that you have a look at the breeders and pop your name down on as many waitlists as you like. The right puppy can usually take around 12months to get, however being patient will be all worth the while in the end! Do not become impatient and go for a breeder that is not fully qualified (We have heard of some horrific stories) Do your research of the breed and don't stop researching the breed until you know EVERYTHING (HINT: Search Double Dapples)
You can also check out our close friends Choc Cream Dachshunds for future litters. What we can say is that one day this is where Kingsley's little sibling will come from!
Goodluck and if you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to ask us

]]>My Personal Experience:
When I first got Kingsley I was living in a penthouse with no garden or yard, So I compromised. I purchased some fake grass (Actually a role roll of it - haha) and I also purchased a play pen. We were lucky enough to have a private balcony off the bedroom, So I left the sliding door open slightly barricaded a small area with the play pen and left the fake grass there. It didn't take Kingsley long to understand that is where he must go. I also had some pee pads just near by the door just incase he made any mistakes (which yes, he did).
I was very fortunate to have very little accidents on the carpet (PS Soda Water and stand on a Towel will get rid of ANY STAINS), Of course being a new puppy in his first couple of weeks he thought that the bed was a nice place for him too also release himself...
Once Kingsley hit 5 months old we moved into a bigger home with stairs, This is where we went wrong! We left a pee pad upstairs for night times and one downstairs during the day...(He was too little to go out into the yard by himself) The mistake we made was allowing Kingsley to have two areas that he could release himself and this is when mistakes started to happen more frequently...Basically we confused him! From this moment we made him like in the apartment a little compacted area down the side of the house for him to do his business, this worked for a little while, until the cat taught Kingsley how to use the carpet to poop on (oh dear) After lots of frustration and paitence we finally decided that allowing him to have full access of the house wasn't the best idea...So during the day when no one was home he would be put inside his play pen with access to the backyard through a doggy door. It wasn't long that he finally understood that the backyard was were he had to do his business. Now please bear in mind this took us a year to perfect and since then Kingsley understands that grass is where he does his business.
(Picture of the pre-setup before Kingsley arrived home)
Advice/Tips:
Bringing a new puppy home can be very daunting and scary... especially when it comes to Toilet Training, From my experience you should purchase:
- Play Pen
- Fake Grass (If you are in an apartment)
- Pee Pads
- Doggy Door
- Soda Water
With these key pieces you will get potty training down packed! If you have the chance to allow the puppy to start with a yard I would teach the puppy to use the doggy door (When they are big enough of course) for toilet time, While they are still growing to that stage I recommend using the Pee Pads when you aren't home by the door or if you are home take them out to the grass every 15-20mins. Once your puppy is big enough and knows how to use the doggy door I recommend when you are going out to barricade the doggy door with the play pen inside and allow the puppy to go in and out. If you have a big yard you can also buy another play pen to allow him/her to reach the grass and have a little outdoor area.
Please bear in mind that owning a Dachshund can take patience especially with Potty Training. Stay calm and remember if you didn't see it happen you can't get upset with the dog...They do not understand.
We hope you enjoyed this little blog,

When I first got Kingsley I trained him in the house to come, wait, sit, stay all the basics (They really do come in hand) I would allow him to walk around the house with his lead on to get use to it and then we also did lots of "Come" training.
From this we built a lot of trust together. After Kingsley was fully vaccinated I walked him off lead in our local area (hardly any cars or traffic) and allowed him to follow me, if he didn't I would then call him to come and stay. It really didn't take me long to teach Kingsley as he was such a quick learner as a puppy.
After a few days of that type of training we then started walking around our local village without the lead attached, from the basic beginning training Kingsley was so use to being an off-lead dog he would stick by my side in busy areas and not divert.
From this learning curve as such a young puppy I can now trust Kingsley to listen when called (Not always if his nose is to the ground - haha).
If you are wanting to train your dog off lead I would start by keeping the lead attached and allowing it to drag along the floor or grab a lead extension to give the dog more space to run. I didn't use treats as an incentive but if you have a food driven dog I would suggest rewarding the dog every time he/she comes back to you when called. This way when you slowly take the lead completely away you and the dog will have made a trust connection.
In saying all of the above I am not a dog trainer nor a vet these are just my suggestions that have worked with Kingsley and other dogs who have successfully completed the steps as well. Please ALWAYS do carry a lead with you just incase there is another dog approaching, Always pop your dog on lead just incase they are not friendly. You can never be too safe!
Love King Kingsley's Ma, Emma

1. "How do you get along with the bigger dogs when out in public?" - @rocketnrach
I love all shapes, sizes and breeds of dogs. I grew up with my big brother Spud who is a staffy cross and met lots of my humans friends dogs from a young age. Socialising from a young age will help any puppy know that other breeds big or small are okay as well.
2. "How much time does it take to keep Kingsley so well groomed?" - @eviesloan
I have only ever been trimmed a couple of times during my life as my fur isn't as fluffy as some of my friends (easy to maintain) Otherwise I get washed once a week or more if I decide that swimming is on the agenda for that day.
3. "Hi! New fan of Kingsley here. Ive been dying to get a long haired hotdog. Are hotdogs high/low maintenance?" - @jared_rr
I would definitely suggest doing all the research prior to committing as some Dachshunds can be very high maintenance and some can be low. Ma always tells people how lucky she is that she got me as I am a very low maintenance King. It also comes down to the breeder, as long as the breeder breeds for temperament more so than looks then you should be ok.
4. "When did you get your Instagram?" - @em_grace12
My humans started my Instagram when I was 8 weeks old.
5. "Kingsley is amazing. How did you grow your IG so well. Is it just because he's so dang cute?" - @daniellepeachhardy
Instagram is certainly a fantastic platform but it is hard work and takes a lot of commitment.
6. "Why do you throw your ball in the water?" - @ella683_smile
I love the water... so it is another excuse to either see my humans fall into it while fetching my ball or an excuse for me to go swimming.
7. "How do you get Kingsley to not bark at everything?" - @bengarseeya
I do sometimes bark, but not always! I am not a big barker however if someone is at the front door I will try and scare them away.
8. "When would you get a second dog? Which breed would that be?" - @leinen_fieber
My humans would love another Sausage Dog, Long Haired Shaded Cream or Black and Cream. We aren't ready just yet for another one but sometime soon.
9. "How old are you?" - @divaannreyes
I am 2 years old.
10. "Hey..Kingsley..how r u? where is your ball no.4?? - @smritipathy
Ball no.4 ended up in pieces and in the big and replaced with Ball no.5... but I am not up to Ball no.6.
]]>So I thought I would share some of my fitness tips and tricks:
Walking:
I like to go for 2 walks a day.
- 1 in the morning which consists of a light walk for around 30-40mins
- 1 in the afternoon that is a little longer for around 40-60mins
Running:
Who doesn't love running? Grab your hooman and get them to either throw a ball in the park or run alongside you! If you are extra lucky like I am get your hooman to sit in a Golf Cart while you either chase them or they chase you. (Ma says this is a really good one to make one tired pup)
- I run 2-3 times per week
Swimming:
I LOVE SWIMMING! It is my most top secret in fitness. I am all about safety so always wear a life jacket just incase my little legs get tired. (TIP: I am a fantastic swimmer but sometimes find I sink a little into the water so the life jacket really helps me keep up right!) I love to either jump onto a floating object or straight into the water. The BIGGEST tip of all is to get your hooman to throw a ball so you can chase it.
- In Summer I swim almost every day
- In winter I only swim when the weather is warm enough
Play Dates:
Who doesn't love to hang out with friends and run a muck! Lucky I have LOTS of friends that I can catch up with and run together! It really gets the heart racing and the the fitness levels up!
If you would like a day - to - day exercise guide and food plan let me know in the comments below! Also please be aware that each program should be adjusted in depending on the breed of puppy you are.
Happy fitness-ess-ing friends!

]]>We all know how important a nutritional diet is right? Well this is where it starts - from the inside out - Since a very baby my hoomans have kept me on the very best of the diets consisting of Royal Canin Puppy Biscuits until I was 10 months old. After I was 10 months old My hoomans popped me right onto the Royal Canin Dachshund Biscuits. This has kept my coat nice and shiny and my tummy nice and tight.
I am not a big eater so I get biscuits all day long to graze on - I do not recommend this to all my fur-friends as some are bigger eaters and being Dachshunds think that it is their last meal.
On the odd occasion sometimes for dinner my hoomans will cook me up some boiled chicken and cut it into tiny pieces - It is scrumptious! I recommend this ALL the time
Along with my day-to-day diet I get lots of yummy treats that are not only good for me but are also amazing for my teeth and wellbeing.
Some of my favourites are:
- Get Wag
Thank you for reading my blog - let me know what you eat in the comments section below. On the next blog I will tell you my day-to-day exercise routine to help with the amazing food!

]]>What you need:
- Ball of choice (I like the Kong squeaky ones - size medium)
- Big lake to walk around
- No lead
Method:
Once you're hooman decide's to take you on that lovely morning or afternoon walk make sure you have your Ball Bae, from here as you are walking around that big lake that you made your hooman walk you around - run, RUN towards the lake with Ball Bae and drop it into the water so that you either have to go swim after it as it floats away or your hooman has to collect it with struggle (It is a great laugh - hehe). BEWARE the hooman may get a bit fed up with this trick.. and pop you on a lead... Just make sure you pull at the lead with your teeth until you are set free again.
- REPEAT THIS STEP THE WHOLE ENTIRE WALK
Hope you loved my blog on how to annoy the hooman and create a great connection with your next Ball Bae.
