A RESCUE NAMED HARRY
Everyone loves a story, let us share ours.

This devastated my parents, they thought they could never love dogs like they loved Finnley and Nelson and then came me!
This isn’t to get sympathy this is to spread awareness of dog attacks & for people to consider rescuing a dog.
January 2018 a month after the attack happened my mum and dad felt emptiness the house was quiet and there hearts were absolutely broken, a lovely lady from Devoted 2 Dachshund Rescue had reached out to my mum and asked if they would consider adopting/ fostering a dog and they had a think about it and they decided to do so, they wanted to help a dachshund that had a rough start to life. A lady called Selina and the dachshund community raised funds to save a dachshund, that dachshund being me :) Selina was fostering me at the time and had asked my parents if we would consider fostering me, they said yes!
As soon as my mum met me she instantly fell in love and I fell in love with her! It took me about a week to get used to my dad because I was terrified of men (I still am), turns out he is a really good guy and he gave me lots of treats so I liked the guy and he loved me and after a week of fostering they wanted to keep me forever because there wasn’t a chance I was going anywhere else!
It wasn’t an easy road for my new hoomans nor me, at the start I didn’t know how to eat from a bowl and I was scared of dogs, I thought they wanted to attack me when they played with me. I used to pee everywhere out of being scared or excited. I was very scared and timid. I didn’t like loud noises and I was so scared to walk on a lead. I was only 4.5kg. My furents helped me and they tell me that I made there heart whole again which they thought that would never happen!
Fast forward to now I’m a healthy 7kg.
I love my dad, every night before bed I cuddle in his arms until we both fall asleep. I am obsessed with my mama which I was from the start. I do bark a bit when people come into my house but I’m starting to recognise people now and let them kiss and cuddle me. I love walking, I love having dachshund friends and playing with them. I love food, I love toys, I can eat from a bowl. I still have some learning to do but I’m almost there, I had a rough start to life but now I’m as happy as can be!
My mum wants to share our story to get awareness out there, rescuing a dog Is NOT easy, it’s hard, it’s scary and it’s a long road ahead but it’s the most rewarding thing my parents have ever ever done. My mum has done a lot of training with me and it took me along way to trust humans, but I did with a lot of love and reassurance!
Some say Harry is lucky to have us but no where near as lucky as he makes us feel. I understand that adopting isn’t for everyone however If you are considering getting a dog and don’t want a puppy please consider getting a rescue, there’s not a love that compares to this!
